Northern Railway is undertaking numerous projects, including a significant Amrit Bharat Station Scheme initiative to redevelop 104 railway stations across its divisions in Northern India to improve amenities and accessibility. Key infrastructure projects include the Nangal Dam-Talwara New Line, Rewari-Rohtak, and Panipat-Meerut railway lines. Additionally, there are ongoing efforts to upgrade speed and safety through projects like electronic interlocking commissioning, yard remodelling, and speed enhancements.
Station Redevelopment (Amrit Bharat Station Scheme)
Scope: This nationwide initiative involves the redevelopment of 104 stations within the Northern Railway zone, including major cities like Delhi and Ghaziabad, as well as tourist and pilgrimage sites such as Ayodhya and Varanasi.
Improvements: Redesigned stations will feature new entry gates, foot overbridges, lifts, and escalators to enhance passenger experience and accessibility.
New Line and Doubling Projects
Nangal Dam-Talwara New Line
83.74 km new broad gauge line project aims to connect new areas, with parts already opened.
Rewari-Rohtak
81 km new line work has already been commissioned.
Panipat-Meerut Line
New railway line project with survey announced in 2010 and approval in 2017.
Modernization and Speed Enhancement
- Electronic Interlocking (EI): Commissioning of EI systems in various sections improves train operations and safety.
- Yard Remodelling: Major remodelling projects at locations like BLM, with additional loop lines and signaling improvements.
- Speed Upgrades: Increasing loop line speeds from 15 KMPH to 30 KMPH, and enhancements on MB-CH sections.
Other Initiatives
- Automobile Rake Dispatch: Northern Railway achieved a milestone by dispatching its first automobile rake to the Kashmir valley.
- Electrification: Over the past five years (2018-19 to 2023-24), Northern Railway has electrified 3,137 kilometers of its network.
